My Story

My dad was a bloody good runner. He used to run beside me at my snails pace, almost walking, and after one loop of our route, he would go off at his pace. I was left in a trail of dust. He ran thousands and thousands of miles. He ran miles at just over four minutes, and marathons in two and a half hours. His life has been defined by his running as long as I can remember. In 2014 we ran a 10 mile race together and I beat him. Something wasn’t right and he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s that same year. He is now pretty much immobile and also has pretty much no recollection of his running days and achievements. So, although I don’t really share my dad’s passion, I don’t mind running, and now I have decided to run 100k this summer. I will run every step for my dad and all those afflicted with, and affected by, this horrible, evil, disease, and try to raise money for Alzheimer’s UK - because money is needed. Dementia is an epidemic. I’ve seen first-hand and up close the devastation it causes, and the sadness and hopelessness it brings. So spare a pound if you can and if you want to run too, apparently I can add you to my team!
